Sad to See You Go Shanker
Five year veteran employee, Shanker Singh, has moved on to the next phase of his personal career trek.
Whether as the Construction Instructor, the IT Manager, or Get Ready to Work Program Manager, Shanker brought a youthful enthusiasm and a refreshingly irreverent outlook to his work.
Shanker helped to grow the Get Ready to Work program into what it is today. He brought new industries into the Career Trek fold and spearheaded new projects, like the Get Ready to Work Summer Camps.
Career Trek is losing a dedicated employee but gaining an influential partner in the school system.
On behalf of the staff and the Board of Directors, I want to wish you good luck in your future endeavours.
I Think I Saw a Stork
Career Trek’s Resource Development Officer, Meghan Laube, is developing something more than resources at the moment. Meghan and her husband Curt Lavelee had their first child, Freya Elizabeth Lavelee on Wednesday, January 14.
Although I am going to miss Meghan’s unending support and her technical expertise, I am excited to meet the newest member of the Laube/Lavelee family.
Congratulations on your new bundle of joy.
As the old saying goes, ‘when one door closes, another opens’. While Meghan is going on maternity leave, Melissa Hartzenberg is coming back.
Welcome back Melissa, I can’t wait to catch up.
Welcome To New Staff
Someone wiser than me once said, ‘change is the only constant’. And the adage holds true at Career Trek.
I would like to welcome our new staff to Career Trek.
Ann Dobson, Get Ready to Work Program Manager
Mariah Baldwin, Seven Oaks School Division Project Coordinator
Marakary Bayo, Development Officer
Lauren Reeves, Education Savings Coordinator
On behalf of Career Trek staff and the Board of Directors, I welcome you into the Career Trek family.
There is Such a Thing as Free Money
The Education Savings Initiative
Career Trek and its partners the Canadian Scholarship Trust Foundation, and the Winnipeg Foundation have created an altogether new position dedicated to helping Career Trek families access a fund of free money for their children’s education.
The Education Savings Coordinator will help families open a Registered Education Savings Plan and access the Canada Learning Bond.
Any current or former Career Trek families that want help accessing these funds can contact firstname.lastname@example.org.
Our very own Darrell Cole, Ruth Stargardter, and Elena Anciro were in Ottawa on Tuesday January 27, 2015 for Cannexus, Canada’s premier career development conference.
They gave a presentation entitled Career Trekking: Experiencing Steps in the Right Directions.
They shared how Career Trek programming gives young people the tools to overcome challenges like the uncertain job market of the future, rapid technological change, and the much talked about skills gap.
